Frequently Asked Questions

While both destroy wood, you can easily tell them apart by their bodies and wings.

  • Termites have a thick, straight waist, straight antennae, and four wings that are all the exact same length.
  • Carpenter ants have a pinched, narrow waist, bent (“elbowed”) antennae, and hind wings that are noticeably shorter than their front wings.

Seeing more pests for seven to ten days after a treatment is a normal sign that the products are working effectively. Modern pest control formulations include flushing agents that disrupt nesting areas, forcing hidden bugs out into the open. As these pests scramble, they cross the treated barriers, pick up the product, and distribute it back to the rest of the colony.

You will typically see a massive reduction in pest activity within 2 to 5 days. However, completely wiping out an established colony or nesting population can take up to 14 days depending on the severity of the initial infestation and the specific pest we are targeting. If you are still seeing consistent pest activity after two weeks, give us a call and we will come back out to re-treat at no extra charge.

While they look very similar at a glance, you can easily tell them apart by looking at three simple physical traits:

  • The Waist: Termites have a thick, straight, continuous body shape, while flying ants have a distinct, pinched-in narrow waist.
  • The Antennae: Termites have straight, bead-like antennae, whereas ants have distinctly bent or “elbowed” antennae.
  • The Wings: A termite’s wings are all the exact same length and size. A flying ant’s front wings are noticeably longer than its back wings.

While natural remedies like white vinegar or peppermint oil can act as mild, temporary deterrents for trailing ants or spiders, they do not eliminate infestations. These DIY methods do not address the root of the problem—the hidden breeding colonies. Professional treatments utilize advanced formulas that pests carry back to the nest to wipe out the population at the source.
